Monique Jacot
One of the significant Swiss photographers, Monique Jacot was born in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, in 1934. She studied photography at the Ecole des Arts et Métiers in Vevey. In 1956, she began to work as a freelance photojournalist completing assignments for magazines and newspapers in France and Switzerland. Throughout her career, Jacot travelled extensively and her work has appeared in numerous publications as well as on television. Among other prizes, she has received the Grand Prix de la Photographie from the Fondation vaudoise pour la Culture.
Monique Jacot created her first photo story for WHO in 1963. She worked on assignment for WHO for nearly 10 years, travelling to Russia, Asia, Africa and the United States, photographed a wide variety of topics from nursing to urbanization, from landscapes to sexual education. Her work was published in the World Health magazine on a number of occasions.
